Reference animal
A published half, scaled carefully.
Brookford Farm published a half with 337 pounds hanging and 197.54 pounds returned in cuts. The table scales that same animal up and down, then prices it at the current $7.06 farm-gate median.
Whole and quarter rates use the share adjustments imported directly from data/normalize.py: whole × 1.069 and quarter × 0.964 when normalizing to a half. The pipeline has no eighth-share adjustment, so the eighth line uses the half-share median without claiming a normalized eighth premium.
| Share | Hanging lb | Packaged lb | Applied rate | Estimated bill | At 2 lb/week | At 4 lb/week |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Whole | 674.0 | 395.1 | $6.60 | $4451.30 | 198 weeks | 99 weeks |
| Half | 337.0 | 197.5 | $7.06 | $2379.22 | 99 weeks | 49 weeks |
| Quarter | 168.5 | 98.8 | $7.32 | $1234.04 | 49 weeks | 25 weeks |
| Eighth | 84.3 | 49.4 | $7.06 | $594.81 | 25 weeks | 12 weeks |
The weekly columns are planning scenarios, not consumption advice. Actual animals, cut sheets, and bills vary. The index median excludes resellers.
Read the estimate
The deposit is not the bill.
Multiply the expected hanging pounds by the farm’s rate, then add any separately quoted slaughter and processing. A share may also carry a size premium. The register’s default processing midpoint is $1.18 per hanging pound only where a farm says processing is separate but gives no amount; that assumption lowers the confidence label.
